@Smoke-The-Pyroling - Yes. The sprite of the action that you are doing just prior to shooting a fireball (example swimming), is copied to the frame you shoot the fireball and the animation begins, and the game checks if you are in a standing animation. If you are not, it copies over a certain amount of tiles. If you are, it copies the whole sprite.

@Agrera I can only assume that'd be for shooting fireballs underwater.

Finally.
A new sheet.

...there's nothing edited here, right?

@DogToon64 He probably doesn't want to have to take the sprites out of the sheet all the time he used it

I noticed that the walk sprites for Mario and Luigi are edited from Donkey Kong. Also the head is also edited from the game.

Good to see the old sheet's back.

@xXDillon3Xx Why would you want this in a zip?

@SuperMuppet Yeah i agree, since they're not in the ROM.
@TMB I know it doesn't make sense, but it's like that in the original game.

please do not take my recreations of the early sprites, add a few pixels, and then upload them acting as if theyre ripped from the game without any of my permission, thanks. if they are your own recreations, i apologize, but im not sure if it fits in with a "rip" sheet

This sheet is much smaller than it used to be.

Oh, that's cool. It makes me very happy to see unused sprites from a first-generation game.

Wouldn't the early sprites be considered customs anyway (like with the prototype SMW Yoshi recreations)?
Edit: nvm, just found a tcrf article that has these.

oh hey, I recognize those early sprites, the first time I saw them was in a Wario Apparition video and that was like 2 days ago.

Me neither, I don't recall ever seeing those sprites before. What is the source of them?

Is the growing sprite accurate? It looks a little different in-game.

@SonicTron because when it came out, it was cutting edge.

Honestly, nobody talks about how crude the sprite art is for this game

@sebi On an NES, the sprite layer can use four palettes at a time, so the values associated vary. The scenery layer has four palettes of its own, but sometimes the values they're given look like the ones on the sprite layer. Goombas and bricks actually use separate palettes, but the values assigned are only different in underwater stages.
