I dunno if it's an unpopular opinion or not but I actually like the English names significantly more than the original holiday names. The whole game is supposed to take place in "rural America", but I really can't imagine an American town being named "Mother's Day" or "Thanksgiving". The new names were picked out by someone that actually lived in the US (Phil Sandhop) and the names feel more appropriately American as a result.

Things like "Ellay" being a pun on L.A. (Los Angeles) or "Podunk" having an ironic meaning for the hometown of the protagonist, "Spookane" is clearly a pun on Spokane but keeping the creepy/Halloween vibe in its name. Maryville/Marysville are actually both real places in the US so Merrysville fits right in, while also sounding friendlier and cheerier by using the spelling 'merry'. Youngtown is a bit on the nose with there only being children there, but again that's the name of several towns in the US so it's very fitting. Overall the English names had a lot of thought put into them and just feel more natural to me. The towns all being named after holidays is cute but not really indicative of the intended setting of America.
