From what I remember, the largest player sprites appear on the pre-match/lobby screen. The splats are post-round. When the winner of the round is declared, the other players can just press their button to splat their color over the winner's victory tab... for whatever goofy reason. XD

This was ripped from the iOS port that was available for a very limited time. This is because the sprites can actually be ripped from this version.
Not quite. It might have originally came from the arcade but Pac-Man Battle Royale was ported to a few systems usually included in Pac-Man Museum. Much of the time, the ports do change things here and there.
The arcade version would have got ripped if it came from there and finding modern arcade dumps/rips are not easy. Plus chances are that it wouldn't have worked anyway.
