And technically Sonic Adventure 2: Battle if you're counting Japanese release dates as both games released on the same day there.

The first sonic game on a nintendo console

I have a sort of nostalgia for these sprites since Sonic Advance is a game i played a LOT and the fact most fan stuff uses these particular sprites. that being said i can see where y'all are coming from when you say you dislike them.

At least it's not a Street Fighter Alpha problem where the sprites are abused in OFFICIAL content or need to be resized slightly to look passable.

Hell I've been trying to make a model based on the sprite artwork (Character select) for weeks and kept failing XD

@Memelords memeland Time and Practice are the keys to success! Just keep trying.

@squidiskool I've used a bit of rigs in my sprite animations. They just allow for separate limb movement.

ive always tried to draw my own version of these sprites and i still fail to this day

@sametdze Wait, what? You can rig sprites? I thought you can only rig 3D models.

If only we had a rigged version of these sprites, seriously people, if you can rig sonic 1 sprites, you can def rig sonic advance sprites! Seriously, i love these sprites, they have major appeal to me, because they look really cool, and my favourite part about the advance games is the trick system!

The case with Advance/Battle and Genesis/32X is that they're both pretty overused. They just appeal to different sides of the fandom. The whole "advance is trash because of the fan projects associated with it" argument can be used against Genesis/32X as there are still plenty of people out there mixing Genesis with Mania as well as producing fangames and sprite animations of dubious quality.

The original trilogy are honestly just as overused as the Advanced trilogy, especially in fan games trying to appeal to classics. These ones just provide with more expressions and unique actions that would be neat if anyone actually used them properly. Honestly just wish more fangames just had a unique sprite style than either of them. Game could be doo-doo but at least it would be kind of pretty.

@Dolphman Yeah, I kind of hate the lousy edits for sonic ocs. I get that there's so many combinations for making sonic ocs and fcs, but just plainly recoloring them is just basically lousy. Also, I understand how you feel about the Sonic Advance/ Battle sprites being clashed up with Genesis sprites, especially in crappy flash games, I don't know why people can't just use the genesis sprites IN THE FIRST PLACE instead of clashing them with the advance sprites. Also, the genesis sprites I think have more detail, and better shading, and the originals are classic sonic characters. I like classic sonic better than modern sonic (but i like modern though... except modern amy. I also like Patafoin because he uses the genesis and mania sprites instead of the advance sprites)

The only time I don't mind the advance style being used is in Super Mario Bros Z (although I wish he used the genesis sprites)

@DogToon64. You're not alone. I'm well known for hating it, and it's only because of being overused back when the rips were new.
The biggest complaint is the amount of bad edits and recolours that plague DeviantArt, and how fangame projects would have Advance sprites but Genesis/32X sprites as well, causing a lot of horrible art style clashing. (None of them were ever completed)
Modern Genesis sprites have been attempted but sadly never finished. (ModGen was due to incompetence, and other things)
Only person who's came close to bring out a more finished Modern Sonic is Hortinus with his brilliant Mania mods.
I also made Genesis conversions of the Badniks for every game in the trilogy and are hosted here.

Am I one of the only person here that hates the Sonic Advance/ Battle sprite style?

Fun Fact: This game was re-released on Android in Japan through the PuyoSega subscription service, and it was available for free. Although it lacked the Tiny Chao Garden and performance fluctuated between devices, I've played on my phone and it's usually very choppy.

Some clean up is needed for this game, removing some of the unnessecary sheets, notably the sheets including Eggman. The default one has bosses that are now in their own sheets, and some custom sprites that don't really fit in with the rest of it. The sprites of Eggman in his mobile are also duplicated on the misc objects sheet.

@Doc von Schmeltwick ..ok

@Mariomaster666 It actually was indeed an early prototype name, but was unlikely intended to be used even at that point, probably just being a placeholder. This was back when the distinctions between what became Sonic 2 16-bit and Sonic CD hadn't been properly divided on the drawing board. At least, so I hear...

Also, shouldn't the Rails sprites be in Miscellaneous section?
