Yoshi maybe used to be a brontosaurus?

@Doc von Schmeltwick
Oh yeah... 〉ω〉

@Lemon Nope, we gotta make a new name, given how many permutations of Mario there are (Malleo, Fortran, multiple Mari's, Malltranari, Murkekow, Young Fortran, Fat Mario, Grand Dad...)

The original Yushee, I suppose.

So in the original versions of Super Mario World, not only did Mario actually punch Yoshi, but Yoshi also looked like some sort of Burtonesque monstrosity.

Frankly, I'm glad that both of these ideas got changed.

It wasn't from a released prototype, but it was clearly used in a prototype at some point, since apparently tiles existed in a game at some point during making it.

Why is this sheet named "Yoshi (Prototype)"? This sprite didn't appear in any prototypes (There aren't even any SMW prototypes currently avaliable). A better title for it would "Yoshi (Pre-release)".

Well, I mean the design would've been okay if he'd had a longer tail.
Sep 30, 2017, 4:41 PM
Ah, okay. It's a pretty good recreation, though.

What about the yellow blob and the swallowing parts? (The ones on the up-right.)
Sep 29, 2017, 10:52 PM
Alright, I updated the sheet to include what may be the alpha version of Baby Yoshi.
Sep 29, 2017, 10:17 PM
Well he was initially intended to be a Koopa, but that's just horrifying.
Sep 29, 2017, 6:35 PM
@SiFi270 Yeah, I imagined so as well.

Looks like Yoshi's finally facing the repercussions of falling down pits that many times...mostly in the facial region.

I'm pretty sure the blob-like thing in the lower left (also found in green on the sheet with the unused Hammer Bros. designs) was supposed to be this design's version of Baby Yoshi, rather than the later Baby Yoshi you used in this sheet.

Cheep Cheeps are in SMW, though with a different sprite than the one shown in the document scan. And I'm not talking about Blurp or Rip Van Fish.

Actually, it was recreated from an interview for the SNES Classic Edition that had that picture showing that Yoshi was much different at the beginning of development. Also, some enemies that don't appear in SMW at all actually appear in the full picture, such as the normal Hammer Bros or the Cheep Cheeps. (IDK if they appear in the final SMW especially since they're enemies that don't appear until SMM, excluding remakes of SMW, although they're still identified as Cheep Cheeps in SMM.)

From the looks of it, that image on the bottom right is a scan from a magazine (thus aren't available at the proper resolution) so this sheet tries to re-create the scrapped sprites- the original game has none of those Beta Yoshi sprites anywhere.
Sep 29, 2017, 12:25 AM
@Smithy it's a recreation. The original isn't in the game anymore. This is from some alpha alpha alpha version.
Sep 29, 2017, 12:25 AM
Because I didn't rip this from the game...In fact, I don't think this is in the game files.
Sep 29, 2017, 12:22 AM
Why is this in customs? Judging by the tileset: you ripped this straight from the game.
