Super late but two other differences between this and GBA is that the sprites for the Demon Wall and Zeromus were replaced with the original SNES ones, since the GBA version had shrunk them down to fit a smaller screen. This also means they both retain the SNES original's darker colours instead of retaining the brightened ones from the GBA sprites. |

Jan 7, 2025, 10:21 PM | Doc von Schmeltwick | Sheet: Spiked Koopa (Super Mario World-Style) |
@Dottler I'm well aware. If fact, you could also make a case that the "Toge" in it references Spiny, since that's "Togezo." |

The palette scrolling thing (where since tiles scroll every 8 pixels while palettes scroll every 16 pixels) is extra fun on the World 5 Tower level on the midpoint outside area. |

@Doc von Schmeltwick Well his japanese name actually translates to "Thorn Bro", which probably means it's part of the Hammer Bro family |

The next batch of ~73 character sheets is about halfway done. I expect to get them out by the end of January. This should include all content currently in Global, but I have most of JPs content, and it's more so a wait for names on those ones. Thank you all for your patience. |
Jan 7, 2025, 5:19 PM | Yawackhary | Game: Super Mario Bros. 3 |
@thejohnston7 Yeah, the glitchy looking scrolling is really bothersome. It's why it's easier to recommend the All-Stars version unless you can adapt to the limitations. Some NES games are basically a glitchfest that may contain a game (and why not really into the console). There are far worse looking NES games than SMB3, both technical and art style. Even Konami who normally have some decent programming made Formula 1 Sensation and honestly... shouldn't have been on the NES because of the sprite flicker and graphical glitches really affecting the gameplay. To defend SMB3 though, it did originally come out in 1988 and had to have some creative mapper programming skills pushing the NES. NES was getting fairly old at this point and would have been older if not for the Mapper technology extending its life (more so in JP Famicom where even FM sound chips were included in games). Of course something like Kirby's Adventure is a technical achievement but that's down to having Iwata involved who had been programming on the same processor family as far back as early C64, maybe even VIC-20. Oh and apparently SMB3 was originally going to be an isometric game but honestly... the final product is better as isometric games tend to be much slower paced. |

Idk. By the way, I gotta say: Wario's trip to space was also comically short. If he moved at his current current in-game speed to the Moon/Planetoid (Roughly around 3 meters a second), it would've taken him a whole Hour and a bit to reach it (Since the minimum height to reach the lower stratosphere is 20km or 20,000m). |

Full rerip. The game describes the purple water as acid and later it turns into water. Not sure if the variant from TerraCraft is even used, but I left it on the sheet as assembled variant anyways. |

@MadeKillaSam i only spotted two differences, those two being the unused idle and unused death sprite (why can't Sega officially ever show us this?) being absent |
