Oct 31, 2022, 8:56 AM | DouglasTheGreatResource | Game: Grand Dad Mania (Cancelled) |
@Jefoi You got something against people making fan games? You rather be questioning the game companies why they put people in trouble for no reason over low effort made projects they make for free. Thats a arguement that should be taken very seriously with our confused government at large since they are the ones who maintain most of the game industry. Game companies are always coward about it. They shut down people's own fan games because they are afraid their customers will end up downloading for free instead of chipping in to a loser Japanese game company lmao. Of course and thankfully, a lot of games including this one are not gone possibly because Nintendo are not aware of the existence of the Grand Dad joke that originated in America but the game itself that inspired the joke really come from China. a country where Nintendo would be avoid of selling games in due to video games banned there because of fears with violence thats fairly common in most video games even back in that era because the Chinese government are afraid to expose Chinese gamers with violence. Nintendo tried to bring some of their games in China but by early 2000s, gba games end up cancelled due to the ongoing ban with games in China. Thats possibly why Nintendo might not know this bootleg and the joke. But even if they do, they shouldn't have any right to take it down because its not their game and was inspired by or based on a third party bootleg originally not sold by Nintendo themselves. Even the Chinese bootleg market is still ongoing today otherwise they wouldn't exist if Nintendo really bothered going through the trouble shutting them all down because that would take Nintendo a very long time if they have to track them all down lmao. And besides, they have better countries where to sell games. So they shouldn't be wasting time on China. Most of us people here don't live under a giant fancy skyscraper, working full time a day on a pile of stacked up workspaces on every floor lmao. Its called "creative freedom" and that is something the game industry doesn't understand because the only thing they can think of is "money" and they do anything in their own power to stop people from making it because suing innocent fans for profit is a excuse for game companies who don't make enough money and besides the whole game industry is missed up and confused by a weird system we'll never understand. In other words, ignore what stupid game companies say. We have the right to create whatever we want because we love the characters and settings they make. People should stop picking on people over silly ideas because seriously money is going too far and we want our freedom back. Screw the game industry. This is why copyrights shouldn't exist in the first place. |

I just had a thought. The title screen graphic is one of the earliest in the entire game, right? Looking at this, I just figured out that Sonic's palette used for the title screen appears to be the one used for his Tokyo Toy Show sprites. It works pretty well! So, is there a reason more of the sprites wouldn't use that same palette? Take the gradient on the "SONIC" text, for example. There's a bit of orange there that looks like it would fit for the mountains and maybe the rocks. The rocks have a few darker colors, which may have been shared with the palmtree sprites. In the prerelease images, it seems to me that both the rocks and the mountains share a similar palette. They seem to share the same palette, but the quality of the images makes it uncertain. Same goes for the bushes, which I assume shares the the grass palette. Here's my edited version of a portion of the mountain sprites. I used the palette from the Title Screen graphic. Sorry the image quality is bad. ![]() Perhaps the darkest blue color in the title screen graphic was used for the sky as well? It's hard to say. But what I can say is; Considering how early the title screen graphic is, it's palette might've been used for some of the sprites dating as far back as the Tokyo Toy Show prototype! It's interesting to think about. P.S. Good job on the sprites! They're very accurate. (๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ |

@miitiiny Super Mario Bros. X (or more specifically Super Mario Bros. X2 in my case). It's a Mario level editing fangame that has custom graphics support (via .PNG files in X2). There's also a graphics pack that converts graphics from various sources and makes them available for others to use; I'd like to import these for that pack (again with proper credit.) |
