We'll look into changing default sort order for searching, I feel that could be better handled with popularity as the default sort order. That's really a tiny change. Pagination was needed a long time ago across many parts of the site - we didn't implement it because it would have required a large overhaul to do. You may notice the site now loads remarkable fast across all pages compared to the old site. This is because we are no longer loading up to 5000+ assets on a single search, the most viewed page on the site, or several hundred for a single letter on a console. We do not use "load more" AJAX calls because they limit functionality, prevent linking to specific pages, and similar to the previous point, puts unnecessary stress on the server. Sorry you feel our asset icons, which have been a staple of the site since it was first created, are soulless compared to my attempt 12 years ago to copy Twitter and Facebook. We're receptive to feedback and appreciate hearing your thoughts. That said, "nothing but complaints" against something that has received near universal praise in at least some aspects is insulting, and the reality is that it makes me feel very much uninclined to take that feedback on board. |

| Aug 25, 2025 8:40 AM | Libby | Update: Welcome to the new Spriters Resource network! | i removed this site from my bookmarks specifically because i hate the new soulless favicon. as for functionality, i have nothing but complaints. sorting by date is confusing (date of what?) and combined with pagination makes finding what youre looking for a nightmare. so now every search i have to click to sort by name and then click through all the pages. wayback machine is faster than this. i think if you made it sort alphabetically by default and either removed pagination or at least had a 'load more' button (which appends the next page so you dont have to go back and forth) and reverted the favicon i would be happy. |

Its good to want to help people who struggle with long load times. I thought that was the purpose of text mode... but I still see why pagination would also help lighten loads. I don't mind pagination as an option, but I do want the option to turn it off and use the site like I always have. . I'm sorry to hear that about RSS. That sucks. I suppose I will have to just follow on Blue Sky... using the RSS support that Blue Sky maintains. I don't have a Blue Sky account. I will hope you consider reimplementing RSS in the future, but I understand why its such a low/non-existent priority, and I do have an alternative I can use. . Yes, I did ignore the security vulnerabilities. Sorry. I hope my suggestion of other software conveyed that I understood why you can't continue with MyBB. I understand running a forum is work, but so is running a Discord server. I think a wiki is good for some information, like tutorials and useful links, but suffers in other regards such as social collaboration. I know you're a millennial too and you're certainly aware of all the criticisms of Discord as a poor substitution for forums, and these are criticisms I also share. I'm glad an in-site communication solution is part of future plans. I can wait. I understand you have a lot of work on your plate. . I'm sorry if I come across as demanding - I do think a lot of changes were positive, and share in a lot of the praise this update has received. I know its going to be a busy time fixing all the growing pains. I'm not impatient, and appreciate all the work. |

The number of games shown may be increased at some point, but we wanted to gauge load time data before making any major changes. RSS won't be returning; it had only 8 or 9 users. Your disagreement about the assessment ignores the security vulnerability that we have made very clear. The forum software was not being updated, and it was a major hole we couldn't plug. Managing a site with hundreds of daily comments, submissions, and maintain a forum, keep it active, and all the rest, is too much for our small team. We have discussed an in-site communication solution in the long term. We are busy with other features though, and the wiki we will be introducing will fill the void of making information available. |

I don't like the pagination of games when browsing by console. I don't feel there is enough on a page to justify pagination, and it also makes things harder to browse. I also miss the RSS feeds and want to see them back. https://archive.vg-resource.com/announcement-19.html I disagree with the assessment of the death of forums. Forums have only died off because websites keep killing them off, and I am a member of several active forums in current year. I understand if you need to change software packages and make a fresh start, but I am very disappointed seeing these forums closed outright. I enjoyed reading them and lurking. If you want an experience closer to Discord, the forum software package Discourse is very good. If you want something you've made yourself, you already have a robust comments system that could be adapted to a forums system. |
