I should also point out how culture blind and insensitive PETA is because the raccoon form is not a raccoon at all. It's actually a reference to the youkai legends surrounding tanuki. The leaf is also part of the legend as tanukis use them to disguise as humans.
Tanukis in real life are a species of native fox-like canines that just happen to have the colouring of a raccoon. (Though they lack the striped tail and the face patches are different) They're often paired with the Japanese fox or kitsune in youkai legends.

It's a fictional character, you do know there are jackets with fake fur too? So Mario doesn't kill Tanooki. And if he DID use Tanooki skin, he could not fly. ITS A VIDEO GAME PETA

Still the other animated chicken videos by peta made me cry tho but still I don’t even like peta when they ruined fun games they ruined like super mario, Pokemon, super meat boy and more which is kinda bad also mario doesn’t get the tanooki suit by ripping the fur from animals, he gets the tanooki suit by collecting a leaf and plus peta insults Steve Irwi on his birthday
