Well, if you use citra on windows, pause the emulation at this boss, open magnifier, and point it over the boss. Its not the ripper, its Spoiler:NINTENDO!!!!!

Its not Nintendo, its the ripper they used.
Edit: figured out its nintendo using citra and magnifier

It can't be a .jpg. .jpg can't store transparency, iirc, and the top says it's a .png. How about read the disclaimer?

Also, the sprites are compressed in-game anyways due to the smaller resolution used on the sprites.

@HardSonicStorm Big mario's swimming sprite was used for hit, not sure about small swimming

Mario swimming sprite appeared in Super Mario Bros when you get hit and shrink, I duno if it's used in this minigame tho
