Last week, Ton left you with a simple message - Black Lives Matter. This isn’t just a statement, a group of protesters, or a movement; it’s a fact and one that’s unfortunately being regularly ignored. It’s sad that this even needs to be said in 2020 but I think the current state of the country makes it clear that not everyone is on the same page.

I’d like to quickly address the negativity displayed in the comments of last week’s update. Neither we nor anyone else using the phrase “Black Lives Matter” is suggesting that they matter more. They don’t claim that they’re the only victims of police brutality or the only targets of ignorance, hate, and racism. They simply want an end to the systemic racism they experience on a day-to-day basis, especially at the hands of the police, and that is something that everyone should be able to agree with unequivocally.

So I’ll leave you with this: We at The VG Resource stand with Black Lives Matter and against racism and police brutality. The changes they’re pushing for will benefit everyone and they deserve the justice they’re seeking. If these statements somehow offend you, nobody is forcing you to stay but remember this moment when you find yourself on the wrong side of history. And if you are choosing to be on the wrong side of history and are in fact just racist, do us all a favor and leave.

No new content will be highlighted in this update out of respect and in an effort to avoid distracting from the issue at hand. Instead, take a look here to see how you can help if you feel so inclined.

I agree, why do people get so overly offended by people talking about serious topics on a website about sprites? Apparently most of you live in a fairy-tale, because it sure seems like a lot of you expect life to be one.

For the last freakin' time, calm down people. Sprite rips mean nothing compared to actual peoples' lives. The reactions I'm seeing here are still abhorrent and I'm getting quite angry reading them.

EDIT: Not you @miyabi, you're fine.

I haven't been active on this site besides checking updates, but I have to say that anyone who is still questioning the validity of current events and the negative impact they are having on minorities should either reconsider their way of thinking by checking possible priveleges they may have or just accept the truth that you refuse to acknowledge that the law-enforcement system in the US is corrupt and needs to be reformed or abolished. This has nothing to do with propaganda or fictional worlds. It's the world we live in, and we need to be the people who take responsibility and do whatever we need to do in order to establish a more fair and just society that provides for BiPOC, LGBTQ+, etc.

I admire all of those who have been speaking up around here. Keep it up.

I'm not calling anyone names with that statement - I'm saying that if you are actually racist, you should leave. If you are not, there shouldn't be a problem with that statement and as shown below, I'm open to discussing the issue with those who approach it in a civil manner.

"And if you are choosing to be on the wrong side of history and are in fact just racist, do us all a favor and leave."

As for the last point I just assumed the people who submitted this week weren't going to be recognised at all. If they're going to be added next week all is fine

I don't see where I was calling anyone names or shutting anything down anywhere in this thread. There was a back and forth between two people with opposing viewpoints that was pretty civil and ended peacefully as far as I'm concerned. Again though, this isn't a political issue - it's about human rights. You're right - everyone should be treated the same but black people are undeniably treated worse than the rest at the hands of police and that's what they're trying to change.

I didn't assume anything about Officer Dorn - I didn't know anything about him and suggested it as a possibility based on context. I still don't see how this one instance changes anything. Just as it has been repeatedly said that not all white people are racist, "black lives matter" doesn't mean they're all above the law. Regardless of who killed him, they should be charged just like anyone else.

Incredible how you stand on this soapbox and then complain about people missing out on an update for a week though. Everything is still up on the site and normal updates will resume next week. Waiting until then isn't the end of the world in the face of what's actually going on in the world right now.

What a joke. Do I support equality among all people? Of course. Black people, women, gays, everyone should be threated the same. Do I support a group that keeps silent about riotings, looting and in some cases condone this bad behavor all in the name of "change"? Absolutely not. I don't support BLM. Does that make me racist? If you say yes you may be the bigot here. You can bring politics in a conversation but you MUST be ready to hear oposing views. Calling people names and shutting them down immediately won't solve anything.

I also find it VERY funny that you assume the person who murdered officer Dorn was white when surveillance cameras show the killers were in fact all black

The people who worked hard on the sprite sheets for this week don't deserve to be deprived of an update over this

Thank you for this update. It's really unfortunate how many people are getting upset and choosing to leave over this, these updates are only making me want to stay here even more. Huge respect to all of the site admins and moderators.

Who's angry? I'm just surprised to see this reaction from people, and especially you. I didn't ignore your point about Dorn - I just didn't see how it was relevant to the discussion. Did he deserve to die? Of course not. Is it possible he was the target of racism himself? Absolutely. Isn't that the point here though? Black Lives Matter is about ending racism, not making black lives more important than the rest so if Dorn was killed because he was black, this movement is just as much for him as it is for Floyd.

As for edits, many are live-streamed at the time which is quite a bit more difficult to manufacture. I'm not saying it's impossible that there are some people editing videos that depict police brutality but I'd wager more of them are real than not.

And who's to say that the people posting them haven't editted them? What makes you think there aren't people trying to also spin a narrative? Also, why are you angry? I am just disagreeing with you and stating what I know. You also, ignored my point about Dorn. If this isn't about race, why are talking about racism?

Those videos are being posted directly by the people that took them. Care to explain how the mainstream media is editing Twitter and YouTube posts? The media is definitely spinning a narrative but you have unfortunately missed the fact that it’s to hide the truth from people like you who won’t look past the surface.

Those videos have been editted by the mainstream media to spin a narrative. The police aren't the problem, the rioters are.

Then you haven’t been paying attention. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of videos showing police firing on non-violent protesters, reporters, and even those on their own property not involved in the protests at all. I really have nothing else to say here - attacking innocent people and business is wrong but I’d say those incidents are in the minority by comparison.

What's not constitutional is rioting in the first place. From what I've seen, the police did not turn them into rioters. They chose to do this on their own.

I know full-well that riots and looting are happening and I don’t condone that but you need to pay attention to the fact that many of the riots start as peaceful protests that are met with violent (and unconstitutional) responses from police. Not all of them of course but when the police are showing up to peaceful protests with rubber bullets and tear gas, it’s no surprise that things don’t stay peaceful.

What you don't seem to know is that this movement should have remained a peaceful protest (and granted some are), but they have gone on to riots. Lots of people have been killed in this even moreso than from police brutality. There is no way I will support the violence in the streets caused by the rioters.

What part of that message said that every white person is guilty or that we support innocent victims losing their businesses or lives, regardless of their race? This is not a political issue. It’s a human rights issue and ignoring it is not going to make it go away. I’m sorry if you don’t want to see it here but this is not the time to be ignoring an issue this significant.

Are people going to overlook Officer Dorn? He was killed and he was a black police officer and no one is talking about him. Two of the officers who were involved in Floydd's killing were Asian. This is a sprite web site, why are you bringing politics into this? Yes, what happened to George was inexcusable, but we go to places like this to escape from things that happen in the world. It's not that we don't care, but there's a lot of hypocrisy going on here and we shouldn't advocate for the burning down of America because of it. Not every white man is guilty of racism and they shouldn't have their businesses torn from them simply because of a tragedy they had no part in.
