I don't think outright prevention is ever a viable answer. Alerting people that are detected to be using AdBlock that they may be impacting their experience (and our future if we really feel like going for the heartstrings)? Sure. Preventing them from doing anything as a result, absolutely not. All that will serve to do is piss people off and, as puggsoy said, start building a rather negative reputation for the site.
Adblock is actually something of great concern for us, not just because of it reducing revenue from advertising, but also because it makes core functions of the site not operate correctly. Whenever an error is reported, Pete and I work to fix it, only to find the issue is entirely caused by Adblock.

@Dazz: Mm, makes sense. It was a thought, but you've got a point. Tiers might work, but then the issue of user alienation/separation appears again (which has been discussed before).
@Doomtodeath: In my opinion that wouldn't be very user-friendly. The site should still be open for all to use, whether you use adblock or not, but it's obviously not encouraged. Forcing people to disable it would be annoying and could give the site a somewhat undesirable reputation. That's what I think, but of course it is Dazz's site so I can't speak for him.

You should set up an Anti-Adblock system for the site, that forces people to disable adblock to continue onto the site. Its possible, and ive seen it before.
The issue there Puggsoy is that the goal of this campaign is to render an additional income stream, not a replacement. I don't want to have to rely on donations to run the site, as I don't think that's a logical step. I may try to come up with some reward tier that allows ads to be removed on your account, but I'm not sure how easy this would be to setup, or whether it'd be something people are interested in with the number of people who already use adblock.
Definitely a cool idea! I'm willing to donate as soon as I'm financially able to!

We've not come up with a reward system yet, as we didn't want to dedicate a lot of time into rewards without knowing if the system would be used. Suggestions for rewards would be appreciated though!
