It could have been a Google search (or whatever search engine that Nintendo used) that one of the devs had done and it was the result. They might have not got it directly from tSR. The other alternatives would have been going through the archives and finding 1990 era tools of viewing the sprites or sprite ripped it themselves, both take far long than a 5 minute job especially when you need to do something quickly to meet deadlines.

Not the first time they had done this, one of the WarioWare games took a screenshot from VirtualNES and tried to cropping it for a Punch-Out minigame. Was Smash Bros. Ultimate they had to change a couple of assets since it was incorrect and matched a rip or something?

(Besides they do have the right to use their own sprites and Nintendo aren't the only company that has done this.)

@Bavoomian Yeah I'll agree. It looks lovely but the Atari one isn't what you think of when you look at it.

Unless it's something like Atari 8-bit/5200 where it's blocky but resembles more of the character... well using this character design at least. (If I didn't zoom in, would have thought of something like SG-1000/Colecovision/early MSX in terms of style).

The boots item is unused, and only found in the Japanese version.
I assume it sped up Kickle's movement, or possibly even let him jump narrow gaps like the Roc's Feather. This is just speculation, though.
8000 is the highest bonus I could get, by defeating 7 enemies at once. It's possible that there's even larger bonuses, but I don't think there's a situation in the game that lets you do better than that.

This game uses a lot of sprite layering. It's good for when three colors per sprite isn't enough, but it can sometimes get in the way because the NES only supports 8 sprite tiles per scan line.

That must be why Yoshi's tongue goes unused.

Counting the 251 Pokémon and the other 25 Unown Forms, they made animations for 276 Pokémon sprites. Quite a lot. Also, I'm pretty sure that because shinies were determined by IVs in Gen 2, All of the Unown forms besides I and V go unused.

@RoosterGamer420 If you ask me, Busby entirely was just wasted potential. They really should've made him more than just an obvious Sonic clone. You have a race of aliens obsessed with fabric materials, a crooked TV executive pig, and a snooty rich female Persian Cat (From the failed TV pilot) as his rogues gallery.
Out of the clones back then, Awesome Possum was way worse than Bubsy. He was so blatant of a ripoff it's shocking Sega didn't sue Tengen for plagiarism.

An interesting fact about this page I just learnt: one of the sprites used for Mario in the Super Mario World game style in Super Mario Maker (and it's sequel) has a stray pixel above Mario's hand.
This pixel's hex color (#FF8040) is actually an exact match to the background color on an older sheet on this page, meaning Nintendo likely just snatched the sprites from this page rather than getting them from the actual game.

Bubsy 3D: Bubsy Visits the James Turrell Retrospective

Personally, I absolutely adore the original PS1 Bubsy 3D. It's such a great and unique game, even though the controls may take a little time to get used to at first. It's crazy fun, with great level design and platforming, great cartoon graphics and a fantastic musical score. Too bad critics hated on it just because they sucked at the game and it wasn't like Mario 64.

Then there's this abomination. The creators of this game knew NOTHING about the PS1 original, only "haha checkered color world spiky mountains haha". They didn't even know B3D took place on an alien planet heavily inspired by the BGs in Looney Tunes animations like Marvin the Martian and Wile E. Coyote. And they probably didn't care anyway. James Turrel Retrospective is a horrid parody of a criminally underrated gem of a game with an underlying message of "haha whoever developed Bubsy should stop making games lmao rofl brrr", and it pisses me off. You know what other games the B3D devs developed? Syphon Filter, Days Gone and Uncharted Golden Abyss, etc. And Bubsy 3D is, in my eyes at least, one of their bests.
