From what I know, The Original salad design was from an old game Lambtaco made. It was called "The Adventure of Scoop" Saladro appears in that game as the final boss, but only appears as a pair of eyes in a salad bag.
The bosses in this game were just nuts. Especially compared to the traced-over-normal-characters ones in the previous game. I dunno why they went with lovecraftian mushroom mutates.
