The Mai-Heroine YouTube channel has a fan project in its infancy, an open-bor, using unused sprites from this game, with backgrounds taken from Final Fight.
Characters use magic instead of cutscenes. If you're interested, check it out (since the original game isn't quite finished, it has better graphics and otherwise lacks in quality and needs something better (please this isn't an ad.))
