alright, now that the character sprite uploads are done, i should try explaining my processes for both versions, because why not:
for the pixel sprites, they are saved in the game in subfolders with the sprites themselves and the color palettes. i only figured out how to get them to look normal because i stumbled upon a post explaining how the palettes work. this is the post i saw: https://www.reddit.com/r/AceAttorney/comments/md4va5/need_help_with_getting_hd_sprites_for_aai2/
this post was in reference to the mobile version of aai2, but i got lucky in that it and the investigations collection were both made in the unity engine, so it also worked for the latter. i modified the colorizer html file for myself so i can drag multiple grayscale sprites and export them all at once to speed up the process. finally, i sorted everything by character ID and put all the sprites together in photopea :)
the HD sprites, however, are a whole other beast. see, those are exclusive to the investigations collection, and were made in a program called spine 2D. i found that out because those were saved in subfolders for each game aptly named "spine". on and off, after having finished my pixel uploads, i was looking into programs i didn't need to pay for to get the sprites in a viewable state. the one i found and really liked was ww-rm's spineviewer on github: https://github.com/ww-rm/SpineViewer
i didn't want to leave my uploads as just some messy pngs with skel and atlas files, so i decided to lock in from there. i dragged the subfolders to spineviewer using the character IDs again, and slowly made my way through everything i found. that's why the folder names in my uploads are named the way they are. that, and it's cool to use for myself and anyone who wants to make additions/corrections and stuff. as long as auto resolution is enabled and the background color is set to #00FFFFFF, i exported animations and frames to my heart's content. this still obviously took a lot of work, as i did all this on my own, but i think it was totally worth it.
the last thing of note i can think of is that the animations that didn't flash and hurt my eyes if i stared too long at them have also been included. they're uploaded as apngs because they looked cleaner and didn't take up as much space on my computer. they can easily be converted to gifs using a site like ezgif, if you want. most of then have their names translated to english from a mix of japanese and simplified chinese thanks to the official art book i used as reference. unsure if i can link the scans i used, but as long as you search "gyakuten kenji official investigation book", you'll see the book i'm taking about. any animation that wasn't named or that i don't remember from my playthrough of the games, i just named more literally. if there's anything especially egregious, feel free to revise it. that's all i have to share 😊

you're welcome! it's been very tedious so far, but to be honest, i really wanted these on the site, too. i'm a decent ways in, so i hope i can keep the momentum up 😅

Woah, thank you for starting to rip the HD Sprites!

It's no worries, I was just curious.

I could theoretically upload the HD overworld sprites but those would be an immense undertaking.

niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

:3c
i've started with the pixel sprites, at least. unfortunately, it's near impossible to do the same with the HD sprites, because they were made with spine 2D. very basic explanation, it's a paid program that uses skeletal animation, kinda like a puppet. unlike the pixel sprites, the HD sprite images are saved more weirdly, with the images being dislocated body parts and stuff :(

Any chance we're going to be seeing the overworld sprites for this game soon?

Thank you for sharing these!
