Fun fact: The Merlon Mario encounters in Toad Town, and the one who would upgrade his partners for 3 shine sprites in Rogueport are different people in canon. Underneath Rogueports west side, there’s a guy named Wonky that will tell you information if you pay, and he touches on an interesting bit of lore regarding Merlon. He explains that the name “Merlon” belongs to a tribe of people that are named based off of their profession, and that the Merlon in Rogueport was apart of that. There are like hundreds of Merlons in the Paper Universe.
