Is there any reason why Popeye and Olive use Mario's color palette? You could have used a color palette similar to the ones in the arcade game.
Oh yeah. That makes sense.
If you've looked deep enough into it, you'll know that the reason they couldn't use Popeye characters was not because of legal reasons, but because they couldn't get the characters to look right in pixel form. You somehow managed to do what they couldn't. Impressive work!
don't really think public domain changes anything about that, romhacks already use copyrighted characters as much as they please and as long as they aren't commercial they're safe. what public domain affects is being able to make it a commercial thing, but if it's a donkey kong romhack it would still be copyrighted so you can't sell it even if it uses public domain characters.
Since Popeye is in public domain, is anyone interested with making rom hack of Donkey Kong?
This is really nice!
I would hate to see the jumpman looking character in 3d
"Now that our Popeye game's given us mainstream popularity, let's take another stab at an IP we can call our own. Maybe there's still some untapped potential in the pilot and ape from Sky Skipper, or the lady from Sheriff."
If the game had been released as Popeye instead of Donkey Kong, Mario, Donkey Kong and Pauline would never have been born!
An alternate timeline in which Popeye either became one of the most successful gaming franchises on the market, or didn't perform well and faded into obscurity.
I love the "What-If" on the title
