@Sonicspritemaster It is debated whether it is one or not.

As a hunch why it is a prototype is because it wasn't physically released as a SNES cartridge back in the day. Yeah there are releases of the final JP/US builds (the PAL one had there been one has yet to surface but have a hunch that it got cancelled due to the N64) and someone can make a repro by using a donor SuperFX 2 cartridge but it was a game that Nintendo themselves announced that it got cancelled.

There are actually games on tSR that can be classed as a final retail ready build but are still listed as prototypes e.g. Genesis version of It Came from the Desert (cancelled due to an obscure bug no pun intended), Earthbound Beginnings, Dinobasher.

@Sonicspritemaster This is a leaked prototype from before it was released

Why is this Prototype when it was released for the SNES Mini and Nintendo Switch Online?

@Mittens0407 They are old rips. Probably as well that the reason at the time were that they were at a fixed position and the SuperFX having some sort of framebuffer meant that ripping the frames was whatever was on screen.

I think the model format has only just been figured out. You don't get many older 3D (pre-PS1) games having their models ripped.

Why are people ripping frames of 3d models?

Also. I'll be doing heavy revision with the names, etc.

I will also ask the removal of the "Airwings, Enemies" rips because this game clearly doesn't use 2D Sprites for Airwings etc.. I want to make this page clean etc.

Okay, the last comment about this game.

1. IT IS and will ever be a SNES Game. Sure it wasn't released on the original SNES back in 96' but Nintendo themselves re-released on the SNES's Official Virtual Console Page / Nintendo Switch Online Service.

2. It was built to run on the SNES. only by that it is a SNES game.

3. Due Leaks, i can confirm the 'SNES Classic' release IS the TRUE finalized version of SF2,

Posted Image

(Also im not using these files to upload on Sprite's Resources. only showing as proof, and please don't contact me for its sharing. Anything i upload here, is straightly ripped from rom files.)

Those title-screen graphics that were ever saw first in the 2017 release, with these file's creation actually dates back to 1995 maybe earlier.

4. If i recall, Dylan once said the game was finished in 96/97 (On a interview) and he had a copy of it, probably Nintendo had it too and released in 2017 as a way of making a easy cashgrab for the SNES Classic.

Final Overview.

I don't think this is can't be consiered a prototype anymore, and the 'SNES Classic' release is a legitmate SNES game release.

(Note, bet i'll have a warning on my paycheck with that picture, imo.)

Should this even be classed as an SNES game? Although it was designed for this platform, it was not technically released and no money was made from it (on its own). Please correct me if I am wrong.

@Zackie
I'm just wondering if there's any way to rip the models from these games, as the only viewer I've found is a Shockwave Flash .dcr file.

@EXEcutor-The-Bat, @Doc von Schmeltwick

1. Still a SNES Game, Because it was developed for the SNES, and the Rom still works with original hardware. Nintendo just finished the ROM and published on a smaller SNES..

2. SNES Classic version dosen't need its own tag on ''Other Systems'' because c'mon its a SNES Clone in smaller size.

@SpritZ

1. I Ripped the ''Alpha Build'' ''Early Alpha'' ones from the leaked builds of the game. you can find them online for download.

Any more questions?

@SpritZ:

1. Somebody just found a prototype of it. 'Nuff said.

2. This stuff HAS been ripped for a while, actually. Most of this stuff was from the prototype version.

3. It was released on the SNES Classic because it was very close to completion before they canned it for Star Fox 64. They didn't want the almost finished version to go to waste, even after 20 years. It's not like the SMW prototype.

4. Any more questions? If so, just go look at Beta64's video on it. Seriously.

To anybody else: I think the SNES Classic version should have it's own game under "Other Systems" as it technically isn't a game on the SNES. Sure, if you dump the game you can play it on an SNES emulator, but still.

Okay... so the same as my question from a few weeks ago..

When was this found.

Why is this just being ripped now :P

And, why is it getting released on the SNES classic? you would think the Super Mario World prototype would be released on there too. :P

I'm confused so please answer all my questions lol.

"Burning onto," by definition, requires alteration. Ergo, it's still different.

@Doc von Schmeltwick Nope.

@Isaac Which would still require fundamentallly altering hardware.

@Doc von Schmeltwick But the SNES Classic Edition, is made out of a SNES, just with extra things. if it is burned into a SNES cartridge, it runs normaly.

But not the SNES itself, which is what matters.

@Doc von Schmeltwick It was released officially on the SNES Classic Edition, besides a few new features being added.

Still a prototype as it wasn't released for the SNES itself.
