Yes, and on top of that, they didn't have the biggest palette or resolution. The ZX Spectrum had a total of just 16 colors: Black, blue, red, pink, green, lightblue, yellow, white, and slightly darker variations of these colors.

With ZX games, every 8x8 pixel space could only have two colors total, which would even affect sprites that go over them.

The ZX Spectrum was a bit of an interesting specimen.

The computer could only have 1 color per sprite, the outlines on characters were mostly transparent so it could be colored with the background (kind of like a chameleon)

While Jumpman does look better, it's because the arcades were more powerful than the many home computers at the time.

Wow, what an expansive sprite sheet!
Heck, Jumpman looked better than this, and he came out a year earlier than this game system and was smaller!
