So I've decided that in frostfire I'm going to let the player choose their gender to play as, each gender will have it's own unique storyline, but the same typical plot flow to go with it. Kind of like how it was pulled off in megaman ZXA.

I've also ditched the white outline in the style just for the simple fact that black outlines tend to blend in with pretty much everything.

*posting this here because I don't feel like bumping the old frostfire topic and I've yet to have made a real game discussion topic.

Personally as a fighting game enthusiast I was hooked to blazblue right away and the news of this new game blew me away while tsr was down.
Here's a fun project. How about we all have fun making video game characters in 1930s style cartoons? It shouldn't be too hard we'll only use 3 colors and white of course. See my example below. You can use any character you want but they MUST be from a video game. I'll put all the good ones in the first post.

The picture can be no bigger than 100x 100 and uses the black and grays from Paint.

Despite having access to Photoshop, I have a tendency to use MS Paint more often for arranging my sheets, ONLY because I'm a lazy crumudgeon who would rather work from the comfort and portability of his laptop than on the back-bending, too-short-of-a-desk desktop that happens to have Photoshop on it.

Now there is a small problem that I just baaaarely noticed before I even started to rip sprites, and that is, when copying graphics from one opened Paint window and pasting them onto another, sometimes there is corruption in the color palette. This tends to happen when one graphic has a much different color range than the other palette, and what results is the program attempting to adjust the sprite to make it closer to what I had in the first window in the first place, or so I assume, I don't actually know that to be fact.

Now up until now, that hasn't been much of a problem. Most of the sprites I've ripped have pretty much the same color scheme throughout the whole sheet, and whenever there were a lot more colors (and sometimes even when there weren't), I studied my sprites closely to make sure that I didn't muck anything up in that regard.

However, I've now reached a sheet where no matter how I do it, it'll still have that slight corruption in the color palette. I'm trying to sheet the bosses from Ninja Gaiden 2 and 3 from the SNES Ninja Gaiden Trilogy, and even after pasting on the 2nd boss, I see mild alterations in his colors, barely noticeable, but it's not the real colors. :<

Here's my questions: Is there a way to make Paint react the way I want it to and NOT do that? Is there a free downloadable program that is superior to Paint that won't give me this crap? Or should I stop being lazy, clean up my room and find my Photoshop CD and install it on my laptop if I can, despite it slowing it down considerably?

Anyway, I've had a couple ideas for character select and art style in general.

Art Style: I was thinking of adopting a Super Mario Strikers-esque art style, but a bit clearer. If you haven't seen the art style, here it is;
http://www.supermariobrothers.org/themes...harged.jpg
I feel it has a better effect for a game with "Smash" in its title, and it generally looks a hell of a lot cooler.
The art drawn would be a medium-to-large pixel art, and we could go two paths with this;
1) Said pixel art would be resized and retouched for character select art.
2) Completely different art from the versus art for character select.

Character Select
General idea: I think we should combine the art selection of Melee and Brawl and combine it with the rotating character models of 64.

Idea A
This one has more of a cybertronic take on character selecting; The old select portraits would be done away with and replaced with this holographic style of select. When the player is "off," the entire window collapses. When on, the window opens and all of the panels (HUMAN, sprite of character) open up. The sprite would rotate in 8 directions at a medium speed. When you press A, the sprite of the character would do some sort of select pose.
Here's a small example of the style itself;

Idea B
Since we're using cards instead of trophies, I figured for this one the select style and general theme would revolve around that; each player is a card. When the player is "off," it shows the back of the card and just says "SUPER SMASH BROS. (TENTATIVE)" like the back of a trading card. When the player is on, the card flips over and has a baseball card-style GUI; most of it is art, with a small part on the side with the player number and their name. When you select a character, the card collapses and the player jumps out of the card into a select pose.
Here's a small example of the style itself;

Regardless; before I can do any of this, I need to know the resolution the game is going to be in so I know what size to make the art(s).

This is the part where I stop rambling and you comment.

A couple of months ago I found a sprite sheet that I really like. The character resembled a dark version of Toad from the Mario games (purple/black rather than white/red head). He had a knife in each hand and there were sprites for some attacks etc. The theme was black/purplish. That's about all I can remember.

If you know where to find this sheet (I know it's a long shot) please tell me!

Thanks,
