SEGA actually put Sonic in a car twice (Sonic Drift 1 and 2)
and in a flying skateboard twice too (Sonic Riders and Zero Gravity)

So it's really no big deal.

the car's designs are based over Sonic Drift's cars

I love your reading comprehension and your lack of information about pretty much everything.
Sonic was already in a car twice. and was almost at pretty much the same time of Super Mario Kart. This is almost like Sonic Drift 3.

And for the note, Crash Team Racing, a "Mario Kart clone" is actually better than half or most Mario Kart games.
Can we have some less generic comments around this?

It's alot more fun if you play it with the classic controller, the only thing that is flawed about is that noobs constantly overuse items when there in the last few places.
