Question Ripping The Hobbit (2003) - .000/.DFS
Evening everyone. Since this is my first post here, I should probably introduce myself.
My name is Moronmaster, or Sam. I run a minor Youtube channel, where I make videos through the use of Garry's Mod and other mediums.

Now, a couple years back, I played this game called The Hobbit. I instantly fell in love with it, and now I want to use the sounds/textures from it.
Problem is, I have no idea how to "de-compile" the files that come with it, namely "audio1.DFS" and "audio1.000".

The game was installed directly to my PC through two ISO files downloaded online. I still have them in my possession.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Cute

It's been a little over a month ago, without any reply. I'm starting to lose faith in this forum :c

Hrm, this looks like a toughie. Would you mind uploading these files somewhere and giving the link? I'd like to have a look at them and see what I can do before saying that I've got a solution.

By the way, don't lose faith in a forum just because nobody replies to your thread. Games, especially PC games, use a large number of various formats that work differently, and by no means do we know what to do with all of them. And sometimes there's nothing we can do.
Just because nobody answered your thread doesn't mean they don't care, maybe they just didn't know or have the time, or you were unlucky enough to post in a time with lots of discussions in this section and people overlooked yours.

Pretty much this. We do what we can when we're able to help someone, but if we don't know what to do for them then we don't post, simple as that. It would be rather disheartening if people kept posting in your thread only to say they can't help, right?

I hate to be a bubble-burster, and it isn't my job to frown at people for being naughty, but I'm about 90% sure that if you're installing from an iso you got online, that's pirated.
(I say 90% because there's always the possible scenario that you own the original hardcopy and had a friend make you a backup copy from the original disks, that you then downloaded and took offline, if you'd like this to be your official story I don't think anyone here is actually gonna bother questioning it.)

I only bring it up because unfortunately if you do upload any of the original files from the game that's actually piracy, it's covered by the "duplication in whole or in part" section of the copyright notice.
If it were up to me I'd say go ahead, but I can't waive the legal liability that you, and unfortunately this website, might face.

so I'm afraid that legally speaking you can't send those files to anyone, not in public and definitely not in private where nobody can tell you've done it.
Hopefully you get what I'm saying here.

Oh crud I didn't notice that bit.

Yeah sorry if you don't own an original copy (harcopy or bought online or whatever) then we can't help you here.

Even then you can't just share files of it on the internet without breaking some law Tongue

I kind of had that thought in mind. Sadly, since this game is somewhere about nine years old now, obtaining a hard copy is just as difficult as you'd imagine, especially in a smaller town like mine.
I understand that nobody can help me out with tripping over some kind of piracy law, so I'll leave it at that.
However, if anyone has got the slightest clue of what I could do on my own, please inform me. It would be of great importance to me C:

Oh, and sorry for accusing this forum of being inactive. I was just so impatient to get to work on this really big project I had in mind :I
You're really nice, once you get to know everyone Tongue

Well what I found was this and this. Since these threads are talking about DFS and 000 files from Area 51, I wasn't sure how successful they'd be, so I wanted to test it out first before saying I've got a solution.
But hey, you can check them out yourself, just don't get your hopes up. It would be awesome if they worked though.
