I'm afraid that instead of everyone coming up with good original ideas, people will focus on too much of who they want to be in the game and boost their ego and such...

EDIT:However the Koopalings were based off the SMB3 team that designed them. So I believe you could make Gym Leaders BASED off of members but not really be those actual members. Hm?

Our idea was to base the leaders off of the members, yes. Like, instead of an actual Tonberry2k reference being the Elite Four, it'd be a trainer in a cape with a lantern, who'd possibly use ghost Pokemon.

With Random Talking Bush, it'd be a grass-type trainer, etc. etc.

The trainers wouldn't actual BE the member's references, but actual humans based off of the references.

Well, of course! It'd be pretty flippin' weird to Pokemon battle with a bush. Wink

Anyways- let's start throwing out ideas for the region we'll be inhabiting- it has to have an original name.

We also should plan areas in the region and such.

Should we have custom starter Pokemon? Custom legendaries? Customs in general? We could definitely use some originality if we plan this to be a fun game.

I'd call 4 or 5th if no one cares

I have a few good ideas, and I've always wanted to try to learn how to sprite the pokemon style

It's like Pokemon Zero is returning but in a way simpler format and without real-time battles :'3

By the way, if you're going to "call" a gym leader spot, it'd be nice to post your team, their ideal levels, and your type. There's no guarantees you're going to absolutely score the spot, though.

RE: Pokemon Prism: The tSR Pokemon Game
Are we making Fakemon? That's good and all but that's where things start falling apart.... Well you're gonna hate me for this. (Like I care) But I'mma post some of my own personal observations of real Pokemon designs and how we can design them. *Ahem*

How to Design a Pokemon: Part 1

The problem with most Fakemon is that people work alone to create them. There needs to be several concepts and ideas going towards even one Pokemon. A Pokemon starts with a simple idea. A myth? An animal? Both? After that has been chosen several designs must be created, judged, and a final design must be made from those ideas.

Simple yes?

There are rules and a style to designing a Pokemon. Pokemon have consistent features that tell you "This is a Pokemon!" and not a Mario, Castlevania, or Halo monster. They are usually pretty simple in design (though recent games are slowly going the other way)

-Don't be afraid to make something unnatural. In the first generation Pokemon had multiple heads! As long as you don't go overboard with too many unnatural features. Just enough.
[Image: 103Exeggutor.png][Image: 084Doduo.png]

-Pokemon can wear pseudo-clothes. Things look like clothes but could be a part of their body.
[Image: 124Jynx.png][Image: 107Hitmonchan.png]

-Eyes are very important, almost all Pokemon have at least one eye. Note the different types of eyes below.

Basic: most common in cute Pokemon, they are tall and emotional.
[Image: 20091223030246004Charmander.png][Image: 20091223025918007Squirtle.png]

Round: big round eyes on cute Pokemon.
[Image: 039Jigglypuff.png][Image: 172Pichu.png]

Solid: eyes that are one solid color, usually used on bug Pokemon.
[Image: 20091223031232012Butterfree.png][Image: 048Venonat.png]

Elegant: sometimes jewel-like, used on mysterious or beautiful Pokemon.
[Image: 20090819224101037Vulpix.png][Image: 20090819230325148Dragonair.png]

Dot: beady dot eyes, can be tall or short.
[Image: 175Togepi.png][Image: 20100326155439433Chingling.png]

Cartoon: big eyes with tiny dot pupils.
[Image: 20091228234234081Magnemite.png][Image: 114Tangela.png]

Shut: eyes that are always closed.
[Image: 20090615115344155Cyndaquil.png][Image: 20090718012109206Dunsparce.png]

Angry: triangle shaped.
[Image: 130Gyarados.png][Image: 034Nidoking.png]

Sinister: like the angry eyes but more rounded.
[Image: 20091228173928092Gastly.png][Image: 20091222160240094Gengar.png]

Note that most Ghost Pokemon tend to have differently colored eyes.

More details and observations on Pokemon designs to come.

I'm noticing a strange lack of gens 2-4. 90% of those are gen 1 pokes.

RE: Pokemon Prism: The tSR Pokemon Game
Okay I admit I'm a bit biased. I'm not fond of most of the 3rd and 4th Gen designs. Its true there are quite a few awesome Pokemon in the 3rd and 4th generation, but I felt the 1st and 2nd had some of the most lovable designs.

For example: To me legendaries should be beautiful and majestic like the bird trio and burned tower crew. Not robotic like the Regis.

Seeing as I'm not imporortant enough to be a gym leader, could some lesser members be NPCs?

After just reading the rest of the topic, is it possible for anyone to be a gym leader? If so, I'd love to design one.

RE: Pokemon Prism: The tSR Pokemon Game
So obviously I probably won't be of much help but you had me at "mining in caves and secret bases are like the ones in RSE".

The 4th Gen sucked like that. I love RSE secret bases.

But, if I may make a suggestion, since you guys will use the HG/SS sprites, we should edit them. Many sprites, while having generally great poses, have poor outlines and it makes their anatomy look wonky. Others, while having okay outlines, have incorrect proportions. I'm all for using HG/SS sprites as long as they are improved. It wouldn't even be that much work, just simply making some scratch edits here and there.

My DA. Contains samples of my sprite work.
