Looks real sweet. I haven't had much experience with the KoF series, and I had heard that XII wasn't all that grand.

Still, I could really use a 360 so I can try this out.

XII has the lowest amount of characters in the series, arcade mode is a puny 5 matches, there's no endgame boss, the opponent AI is retarded, the entire presentation of the game is really bland and uninteresting, and the entire game just feels like it's unfinished and rushed


and a lot of characters are missing signature moves (terry bogard has no buster wolf) and the netcode is garbage

exactly-- it's not a bad game in its own right, and is actually really fun in versus play (which is really all that matters) but it is without a doubt the worst KOF game

Bumping this thread to say that I played this game at Otakon and chances are Tyvon's played it at Evo this weekend. What did you think, Tyvon?

there was a short, skinny girl at the KOFXIII table who played the meanest friggin duolon ever holy shit; but there was a guy just plain wrecking with Athena/Kula/Yuri...who I'd honestly be playing if I wanted to look like a scumbag ): esp. given our kulas were the same skill level and everything

I was pretty thrilled with the gameplay overall but it's a little weird for them to SF4-itize it (make a NEW GAME consisting of THE BEST CHARACTERS WOWEE)...though at least SF4 had NEW CHARACTERS


one thing that bugged the living shit out of me though was the teenage girl characters - they have extremely disproportionate heads in comparison to their anatomically accurate bodies...no seriously, if I knew nothing about KOF and you told me that Yuri and Athena were actually male gymnasts in drag wearing mascot heads and stuffed bras, chances are that I'd probably believe you.

the even more annoying things were the incredibly s---l---o---w------a---s---s------l---o---a---d------t---i---m---e---s.---.---. between matches. Something like that isn't going to make online very enjoyable. However they did state that the game is a work-in-progress so they'll probably optimize the load times by the time the game comes out...I hope :/

though in its defense, the palette-swaps in this game are fucking amazing and there's even palette customization if you aren't satisfied (though honestly I think you will be -- Benimaru? How about shirtless Benimaru? What you say that's too gay? How about CYBER-ARMS BENIMARU? OR ROBO-KULA?) Seriously, the game's palette offerings are AMAZING and a little thing like that makes a game really enjoyable, esp. if it's a sprite-based game.

so uhm yea maybe tyvon'll be a little more in-depth but did you see anything that bugged the shit out of you too? >:

hwa jai is totally new to KOF and saiki is totally new to SNK in general (both forms), and there's still 4 more characters to announce (ex iori doesn't count but is a welcomed addition, considering his 13 movelist is totally different from his 98 movelist. so in a way iori himself counts as a completely new character. also a bunch of characters have totally new movelists as well)

also 13 not having """new characters""" in comparison to sf4 is totally different, mostly because for SF all you have to do is create a new model and give it moves. SNK is staying true to sprite-based animation, which means characters take a lot more effort to make. and by adding in fan favorites to this new system they're pleasing the fanbase a lot more. KOF already has tons of characters and in all honesty it doesn't need to see very many new faces because of how diverse the cast ALREADY is. they'd have to work really, really hard to create a new character that has a totally original movelist and playstyle while still being KOF.

sf has a lot more opportunity to work in new characters because 3/4 of the cast is either a shoto or has shoto-esque properties (fireball, uppercut, leg-based move)
but they don't need to do so either because they have so many favorite characters in past games like THIRD STRIKE WHERE IS ELENA CAPCOM

oh thank you tyvonicus, the uneducated group I played with this weekend didn't seem to notice that there were any actual "new characters" -- neither did I really, I didn't see Saiki on the character select or anything :/

But it's good to know that this game's gonna have at least one ~original new character~

I had the stick issue too lol; there was actually one setup that had xbox360 controllers set up. Which...I didn't like but since the game doesn't require triggers be used I was totally OK with

They were giving away these really cool looking KOF posters but no matter how hard I looked I couldn't find a single one :/

oh well :/
