RE: Roy
Maybe have his sword in it's sheath and make a pulling out animation and then he uses his attack

RE: Roy
That would slow him down. What if we make Roy do more fanciful stuff when he attacks? Spins, etc? I don't know if this goes against his character in the games though.

You should add Luigi's Thunderhand to Mario attack.

RE: Roy
It seems like Roy keeps his sword in it's sheath and takes it out when he needs to attack. So, having his sword in his sheath at most times would technically be staying true to his character. I actually find this kinda funny since in Melee Roy never had a sheath.

However, it really would slow him down. Maybe his entrance could be him appearing and then pulling out his sword.

Strive for victory. Vanquish defeat. And always pack the extra 1up.

RE: Roy
wouldn't that also slow him down?
Well, if he always keeps one arm on the handle, so he can pull it out quickly whenever he attacks, that could work, as long as he always swings his sword very quickly, and maybe in a large circular shape, so that he can quickly pull it back when he's done?

RE: Roy
Shouldn't we slow him down a bit anyway? Ike is super slow, Marth is super fast, Roy is in between. It also adds a lot more capability for making his attacks look more different from Marth's.

RE: Roy
I think it'd work pretty perfectly with a sheathed sword..

So long as he keeps a hand on the handle, I can't see how it'd make him that much slower anyway. For example... What's the difference of him charging his Side Smash by pulling his sword behind his head, as opposed to charging it whilst sheathed? Either way, as soon as you release the button(s), he'd slash the sword out just as fast.

RE: Roy
Now that I think about it, we don't have a sheath-style sword character in Brawl aside from Lyn, do we? Roy being changed to a sheath-style would give him TONS more originality.

Also, since Roy will be more sheath-based, maybe we should alter Roy's counter to focus less on power and more on stunning the enemy? The stronger the move that Roy is countering, the harder the stun becomes. Then this could be used to combo into another move, which, depending on how bad the stun is, could have some devastating results.

One more thing-- I can imagine Roy's moves actually becoming a little faster because of his sword-sheath style, but maybe they could have bigger amounts of lag after the actual move is done since he has to re-sheath his sword? Balances out the three characters and gives them their own distinct playstyle.

RE: Roy
Maybe he can use the hilt of the sword for a few attacks too.
That might work for the counter, too, seeing as the focus is on the stun instead of the damage.

"Odd"?
