I don't like how the game requires you to take your hand off the buttons or slide pad in order to tap the touch screen.

general "I don't like touch screen controls" comment from viper

I realize that there are less buttons on the 3DS, but perhaps the D-pad could have been used as a pause button?
It's unused for anything else (as far as I can see ) so it's not too far fetched to set D-pad Up to pause/menu/, etc.

Two things I would like to point out about the controls:
A:Just because you are completely forced to take your thumbs off the buttons or circle pad doesn't make the touch controls shit.
Lets be honest, the I and II buttons on the touchscreen can be used as item holders if you need to use things like the iron boots or lens of truth, and you don't even need to use the X and Y items on the touch screen since you use the actual buttons for those items assigned. Things like view and navi are completely understandable, I mean for the most part it's not like you will need them for 100% of the game.

B: if the d-pad was going to be used for anything then it should be for controlling the camera. That is all.

RE: Zelda: OOT Comparison
I did a jumping slash off of a crypt at a Gibdo in the "Under the Well" minidungeon, he caused me to freeze in air above directly above him which caused the camera to rotate around me Matrix style, and after it wore off, Link came crashing down and hit it.

Also, not sure if this is a glitch but in the same area, I jumped from on top of one crypt to another and I fell in and it counted it as a bottomless pit. The crypt I landed on was closed, I just hit the lid, Link screamed, and then I was taken back to the door.

Did you remember the key on top of the trees in that courtyard where you fight the two wolfos? I always forget that one.

I never called the controls shit. I said I didn't like them.
Despite what you might think, I am -NOT- completely opposed to touch screen controls.
I /AM/ opposed to bad uses of them, but not them being used.

In OOT3D's case though, this is a game in which I want my hands firmly planted on the controls at all times. I don't want to end up having to physically remove my hands from the controls to tap the screen, momentarily stopping me from moving or doing anything that the entire right side of the console controls.

oh okay so taking one thumb off ether side of the console is going to screw you up and cause an instant game over.

I fail to see your point. In fact I am wondering if you even read my entire post.

For the most part you don't even need to use the touch screen. Even if you do you still can use the circle pad or action buttons when you use any of the menus or the ocarina (you know, because doing those things actually stops everything around you)

Hell if you're using any item aside from the ocarina you don't need to take your right thumb off the circle pad. that doesn't stop you from moving at all.

If you do happen to use anything on the left side of the touch screen then you're probably at a point where you don't need to move. If you do then I don't know how you can play it like that.

you still had to do this on the original. it was a red button called "pause".

Well then you wont be opposed to OOT3D's use of them. Because they're put to very good use.

yes, because moving your thumb == taking your entire hand off the controls

Uh, I don't know how big the 3DS is, but I can do that on my DS Lite just fine. In fact, my thumbs can cross each other over the touch screen.

So, what's the problem?

I only found it out the other day
I find it a buttload easier to remember songs if I'm using the touch screen, as well
