Polls are never useful. They don't encourage any form of discussion, and newbies are usually in the habit of putting a poll at the top of every thread they make; relevant or not.

RE: Suggestions - RétroX - 06-19-2011 03:21 PM

Polls can encourage discussion. You'd get as much discussion out of a poll as you would from a topic like the happy/not happy topics, except, split into multiple topics. Those topics encourage content with less discussion, which is what polls create.

RE: Suggestions - Dazz - 06-19-2011 04:27 PM

It produces something that I don't believe in, which is splitting opinion in specifically decided viewpoints. Seeing things as either black or white, good or bad, right and wrong.

Without givin more information, you lose individual thought.
And as others said, you lose discussion. And newbies make polls for their sprites and shut just saying "is this good? Yes, No."

Should there be a subforum for fighting games? they seem to be pretty popular here after all

RE: Suggestions - Mighty Jetters - 06-19-2011 10:53 PM

Well fighting games don't have nearly as many threads as Pokémon so it might not be of as much use IMO.

Yo so I thought it may be a good thing to bring back the "Spam Zone" type forum, for very casual chatter as right now there isnt a place for it on TSR, which I think is part of what made the shitstorm today as intense as it was.

The main problem was that there wasn't any place for fast-flowing chat on TSR. You may think that The Lounge thread would be enough for this, but it isn't. For the volume of posts an active, fast-paced chat gets, a single forum thread would not be able to handle the amount of posts and number of different simultaneous topics.

This led to TSR users having to talk on chat clients and whether intentional or not two separate groups formed: the "Skypekrew" and a group of Dex and his friends who also attend another forum. This divide inflated yesterday's shitstorm substantially. However, if there had been the Spam forum TSR users could all chat together, quickly, freely, with distinct topics and with moderation.

Although with the Spamhaul being closed last year meant that GD's posting rules were more lenient, I still feel like any thread I made in there would have to be Important-- this is why I still haven't made a single thread in there-- and I'm certain that other members feel this way due to there just not being that many topics in GD. It would NOT have to be the Spamhaul of the past with the "ironic" racism and weird drama; I think December 2010 was a good example of the fact that we CAN have a friendly chat forum, and that the forum is a lot less fun without it.

Please don't ignore this post for the sake of my comment yesterday. Actually, if someone would quote this for the benefit of those likely ignoring my posts, that would be lovely~

This actually makes a ton of sense. Could we make this happen?

RE: Suggestions - Mighty Jetters - 07-19-2011 01:45 PM

I have to admit, that probably could have helped prevent some of yesterday's destruction.

Also, just so you know, I'm not ignoring your posts (but I know you are mine). I try to move on quickly.

Just a minor nitpick on the site, but the black boxes that surround the icons for steam, facebook, twitter, etc. seem a bit unnecessary. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/kk175/redblueyellows/blackbox.png

Not sure if they're removable or not, but thought I'd point it out.

RE: Suggestions - Asther - 07-29-2011 05:55 AM

Those black boxes arent there when i view the page. im on chrome.

RE: Suggestions - redblueyellow - 07-29-2011 06:06 AM

Okay, cool. I guess it's just a firefox/ internet explorer thing. I just went on chrome and didn't see them.

RE: Suggestions - Dazz - 07-29-2011 07:43 AM

Bizarre, my firefox doesn't pick them up either...

RE: Suggestions - RétroX - 07-29-2011 07:14 PM

Try Ctrl-F5 to refresh your browser cache.

RE: Suggestions - Mighty Jetters - 07-29-2011 07:18 PM

Indeed that's weird, because I don't see them either. Maybe it's your version of FF, RBY?

RE: Suggestions - redblueyellow - 07-29-2011 07:30 PM

Yeah, turns out I just had to update my version of Firefox. Thanks.
